Chief Instructor - Brenscombe Outdoor Centre Permanent Position
Start date: February 2019
Salary: £20,000 pa.

Interviews will be held: Week begining 17 December

We are looking for an experienced, enthusiastic and hardworking outdoor professional to lead our instructor team at Brenscombe Outdoor Centre.

Brenscombe is a bustling residential outdoor activity centre located in Purbeck on the south coast of sunny Dorset. It has accommodation for 150 people and works with up to 250 clients a day. We offer a wide variety of outdoor pursuits that take full advantage of our surrounding countryside, from canoeing in Poole harbour to climbing on the cliffs of the Jurassic Coast.     

The Chief Instructor is responsible for managing a team of 16 seasonal instructors to deliver high quality outdoor programmes for our clients.

Living in Purbeck gives access to brilliant sea cliff and sports climbing all year round, sea kayaking, canoeing, mountain biking and surfing.

Qualities and experience we are looking for:

  • A team player with a strong work ethic
  • Enthusiastic about the outdoors and outdoor activities
  • Minimum of three years working in outdoor centres 
  • Ability to lead and manage a team of instructors. 
  • Ability to prioritise and manage multiple demands
  • Good facilitation skills, with experience of working with School and Corporate clients
  • Hospitable with good interpersonal skills 
  • Good working knowledge of team work and leadership approaches
  • Ability to deliver and inspire high quality outdoor activity sessions
  • IT literate


Successful candidates will have a broad spectrum of qualifications and experience that will likely include many of the following awards.

  • 16 hour first aid at work certificate 
  • BCU/UKCC level two coach or level three coach
  • RCI/SPA qualified
  • ERCA ropes course qualification
  • D1 minibus license
  • Archery GB/GNAS
  • NRSA rifle shooting
  • Mountain Leader award 
  • Lowland leader award
  • RYA powerboat level 2
  • Bush craft experience
